Unlike Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans isn’t expected to make his return to the MCU anytime soon. Although several rumors would like the American actor to return in Phase 4, Steve Rogers’ future in the Marvel universe seems to be over for now. The series Falcon and the Winter Soldier even introduced the new Captain America after it aired on Disney+. Sam Wilson will don the suit and shield in future phases of the MCU, this may be a sign that Steve Rogers will not be returning.
Another clue drew our attention to the disappearance of the super-soldier. This includes the tribute to Captain America in the newly unveiled trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home. The most attentive fans have spotted Steve Rogers’ shield recreated at the top of the Statute of Liberty. If this could be a tribute to the hero for his bravery during the events ofAvengers: Endgame, it seems more likely that the United States wanted to salute the memory of Steve Rogers, on the occasion of his death. This would definitively conclude the hero’s story arc and make his death official.
Avengers Endgame writers explain a controversial death, directors think Chris Evans is done with the MCU and also explain Katherine Langford’s absence. Spoilers.
Since the release ofAvengers Endgamethe writers and directors of the film have been explaining some of their decisions to the media. Fans are having a hard time getting over some of the choices made by the writers, and the writers are giving their take on it. Warning, the following is spoiler.
In the movie, Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow goes on a mission with Clint to retrieve the Soul Stone. They both know that one of them must sacrifice himself for the good of all. Everyone tries to sacrifice themselves but it is Black Widow who jumps and dies tragically.
The scene is shocking, especially because we see Natasha’s lifeless body lying on the ground. She’s dead, she can’t be brought back after this sacrifice. Co-writer Christopher Markus explained why they made the decision, “I understand that she was a beloved character and none of us wanted our heroes to die. But this is the natural end of her journey and it’s kind of the apotheosis of what she’s become.”
In other news, The Eternals also touched on the demise of Steve Rogers and Iron Man. By questioning the future leader of the Avengers, these new superheroes may also have confirmed the demise of Steve Rogers along with Tony Stark. So let’s hope that this issue will be addressed more precisely in Spider-Man: No Way Home.Another possibility would be that it’s not a tribute to Steve Rogers but to Sam Wilson after his speech at the end of Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The release of the third part of Spider-Man’s adventures should tell us more. We look forward to December 15, 2021!
He adds: “She started as a very dark character. Even before the movies started, she’s a spy, she’s an assassin. She has a violent past under her belt and driving her to the point of sacrifice is where her character is going. And to not let her do that was doing her a disservice as a heroine.”
Co-writer Stephen McFeely adds: “We couldn’t be afraid to kill her off just because she was the most important character and the first female character. Again, the point of all these things is just to put these people on a journey, to continue or complete their journey. Steve Rogers goes from disinterested to slightly more interested. Tony goes from selfish to giving of himself to the universe. Thor goes from having an obligation to letting go of that obligation. And Black Widow goes from a woman with blood on her hands to clearly wiping away all that blood.”
Bye Steve Rogers
And speaking of wrapping up a run, elsewhere, directors Joe and Anthony Russo think this is indeed the end for Chris Evans as Steve Roger aka Captain America. The latter had his happy ending with Agent Peggy Carter. He went back in time and lived happily with the love of his life.
As of now, “there are no plans” to bring Steve Rogers back as Captain America, according to Anthony Russo. But he’s not dead, which means anything is possible. Even if some fans hope to see him again in a movie or a series, for now, Steve Rogers is out of the picture. The MCU adventure is over for him.
