Flowers in China

The meaning of flowers in China , a much more important subject than it looks. In China, it is well known, numbers and colors have a great importance in everyday life , but did you know that flowers in China also had a symbolic ?

Happiness, protection, longevity, fertility and so on, flowers and trees have an important meaning in Chinese tradition and customs.

? Chinese Flower – Symbols in China:

Absinthe is an aromatic plant being part of “ eight treasures ”Which are lucky symbols for buddhists .
It is used for chase away the disease and it is said that the bad waves will disappear if we put a branch above a door .

Chrysanthemum – Symbol of longevity and immortality.

Chrysanthemum is symbol of longevity and immortality because it is a flower that appears in September , the ninth month of the year and the number nine is pronounced almost the same as the word “long” in Chinese . The chrysanthemum is the emblem of autumn and represents cheerfulness . This flower is also called ‘ Golden flower ‘and also represents liveliness and ease .

Lotus – Symbol of purity and perfection. But also fertility and fulfillment.

The lotus is the symbol of purity and perfection according to Buddhist and Taoist traditions . This flower is summer emblem and also represents fertility . In Chinese tradition the lotus is also a symbol of spiritual development .

Orchid – Symbol of spiritual purity and finesse.

The orchid is the symbol of spiritual purity and is used to chase away evil spirits thanks to her perfume . In chinese decoration it is often associated to the rock, bamboo or prunus to symbolize noble friendship . The orchid in China also represents the finesse and is considered as the ancestor of all perfumes .

Peach blossom – Protection symbol. Cast out evil spirits.

The peach blossom is compared to the complexion of young girls but can also be assimilated to light women easy to seduce . Plum blossom – Symbol of union and continuity.

Plum blossom has several symbols. First of all its five petals symbolize the union between the living . Every year its flowering symbolizes the continuity and length of human life . This flower blooms at the end of winter in the great cold and so is symbol of valor and courage despite the difficulties. Finally, it symbolizes modesty because it disappears when others bloom .

Peony – Symbol of love, affection and feminine beauty.

Peony is also the emblem of spring. In China it also symbolizes wealth and honor , and is considered as the queen of flowers . during the song dynasty (960-1279) she was called “ flower of wealth and prestige ”And was, as still today, represented on many objects . It is common to hang at home or office paintings of peonies to favor luck and good business .
